Top Story - AWOS repairs

A gaggle of onlookers watched as local pilot Paul Deignen, Board President Gerry Grannetino, and Airport Manager John Kassab repaired the AWOS system in January. The terminal antenna was replaced and repairs were made to the AWOS tower wiring and hardware. Mr. Grannetino supplied his boom lift to aid in reaching the terminal roof and AWOS tower.

Night approaches

After years of tree mitigation, the FAA recently test flew our IFR approaches in their heavily-equipped King Air in order to reinstate night GPS and VOR operations. We are awaiting final results of the tests in the hopes that the approaches can be reinstated later this year.

Runway LED lighting

A project to replace the runway lighting with a new LED lighting system is proceeding and may take place next spring. This project will precede a complete runway resurfacing and widening in the next few years.

D-Row revamp and other macadam improvements

The tie-down ramp on D-Row is being upgraded with new macadam and new drainage. The project will take a few weeks. That project will be followed by some repairs to the pavements and walls around the hangar rows. Then, a much larger project will begin to revamp the east side tie down area with new pavement, leveling of the surface and preparation for a row of new corporate hangars.

Pilot Spotlight

Dan Sundt

Tucked in the ceiling of hangar A10 is a site you don't normally see. A homebuilt Rotorway helicopter lifted above a Cherokee 6. Dan has been our airport volunteer treasurer for over 15 years, doing yeoman work helping the airport accurately track expenses and garner airport grants from the FAA and Pennsylvania programs. Dan is retired from PECO and married with two children.
